PhD course on Financial Intermediation

Professor Mark Flannery , University of Florida, visits the Aarhus School of Business in September 2008 to teach a 1-week intensive PhD course on Financial Intermediation.

Where and when

The course takes place in room R220 at the ASB from Monday 1 September to Friday 5 September 2008 (5 days) starting at 9.00 on the Monday and finishing at 15.00 on the Friday.

Participation fee

There is a participation fee of EUR125 for this course.

Topics

This course will treat the theory and practice of financial intermediation, broadly construed to include banks, savings institutions and investment/merchant banks.

Topics will include some or all of the following:

  • The role of banking firms in a developed capital market
  • Their impact on corporate financial decisions for nonbanking firms
  • What we might have learned from the recent U.S. subprime mortgage crisis
  • Regulatory efforts and market discipline
  • Securitization – pros and cons
  • Finance and growth

Participants will be provided with a list of readings to be done in advance or during the week we are meeting, and are strongly encouraged to present their own work during the week.

The course is equivalent to 7.5 ECTS points.
