The PhD Programme

The PhD programme is an internationally recognised research training programme requiring PhD students to participate in an individual course programme of at least 30 ECTS credits.Department of Business Studies offers three PhD programmes:

  • The 5+3 PhD student has completed five years of university studies and holds an MSc in business or economics or another relevant subject when enrolling in the programme. The 5+3 PhD student has three years to complete his/her PhD.
  • The 4+4 PhD programme takes in PhD students who are only halfway (4 years of study) through their MSc studies when enrolling in the programme. The 4+4 PhD students have four years to complete their PhD as they complete their MSc at the same time.
  • The Industrial PhD student holds an MSc in a relevant subject and has the backing of a firm which contributes financially to both salary and research training. The Industrial PhD student has three years to complete his/her PhD.

PhD thesis

The PhD thesis is composed of an introduction and a number (typically three to five) of self-contained articles written in English. During the first year (two years for the 4+4 students), the PhD student participates in various PhD courses (amounting to a work load of 6 months).

During the PhD period, the PhD student has a total teaching load equalling 6 months. The PhD student usually visits a foreign research institution for one semester.

Academic supervisors

When entering the PhD programme, the PhD student is assigned one or two academic supervisors. Prospective PhD students are encouraged to get into contact with a potential supervisor before sending an application for a PhD scholarship.
