- It is the highest academic distinction that a researcher can gain, apart from the Nobel Prize, so of course, I’m very proud to be able to write “Honorary Doctor” on my visiting card, says Klaus G. Grunert.
For a number of years, Klaus G. Grunert has studied consumer behaviour in the food sector. In 1991, he established the research centre MAPP at the former Aarhus School of Business, and the centre specialises in this particular field. Therefore, the appointment as Honorary Doctor has also won MAPP recognition. Throughout the last 20 years, MAPP has developed into Europe’s leading research centre within consumer behaviour and innovation in the food sector.
- The appointment has won the entire research unit international recognition, and I have just been the anchorman. We show that we have gained influence and made a difference, and this may benefit the centre when we are to apply for new research grants in the future, says Klaus G. Grunert.
According to the nomination committee, the reason for the appointment as Honorary Doctor is that Klaus G. Grunert has managed to combine a strong, scientific approach with close cooperation with the business community. This particular bridge building between researchers and business activities characterises the work of the Finnish University of Vaasa.
