Communication and a special focus on IT and management are the reasons why Charlotte J. Brandt has ended up at the Department of Business Administration under Business and Social Sciences, where she is employed for a five-year period, although the prescribed period of time for completing a PhD is three years. The extended period of employment is due to her increased teaching duties as a teaching associate professor.
As part of the team “IS Research Group”, Charlotte Brandt will be conducting research into the organisational implementation of IT systems with a special focus on the modernisation of entire industries, such as the application of IT by farmers. Although there is already a great amount of literature on the subject, Charlotte J. Brandt believes that she will be able to contribute something new by looking at implementation from a different perspective.
Master in IT whetted her appetite
In 1996, Charlotte J. Brandt was awarded the Master’s degree in information science at the former Aarhus School of Business, and for 15 years, she has been working in the private sector, for instance as a method consultant and an enterprise architect at Jyske Bank. To enhance her knowledge of enterprise architecture, Charlotte J. Brandt decided to complete a Master in IT module, and the following year, she completed yet another module, which gave her the urge to write a PhD.
- I’ve really enjoyed working in the private sector, but the two modules that I completed in 2009 and 2010 were incredibly inspiring and gave me an academic boost. I realised that what I had been working with in the private sector could be related to academic literature, which gave a broader perspective on many things. So when I was encouraged to apply for this position, I was really motivated to start conducting research within my field, says Charlotte J. Brandt.
In addition to writing a PhD, Charlotte J. Brandt will be teaching the course “IT in the company”, which is directed at first-semester students of economics at the former Aarhus School of Business. Charlotte J. Brandt is pleased with the opportunity to teach, as she loves to make indigestible subjects more accessible.
At home in Aarhus
Charlotte J. Brandt feels most at home in the centre of Aarhus, where she has lived most of life, apart from one year in England. In 2005, however, she moved to the Danish town of Silkeborg together with her husband and two children, aged six and nine. The increased distance between their home and her job means that she spends a lot of time commuting. But when there is a hole in her schedule, Charlotte J. Brandt likes to exercise, read books or enjoy the many pleasures of the garden.
