The research centres ICOA and CCP are proud to invite fellow faculty and students at Business and Social Sciences to a guest lecture “A general talk on Japanese Human Resource Management” by professor Takao Kato.
Takao Kato is a W.S. Schupf Professor of Economics and Far Eastern Studies, Department of Economics, Colgate University. As a long-time CCP research associate he is a frequent visitor at Aarhus University and currently Takao Kato holds an Otto Mønsted visiting professorship at CCP.

Presentation of professor Takao Kato:
Takao Kato is W.S. Schupf Professor of Economics and Far Eastern Studies at Colgate University. He is also a Research Fellow at IZA Bonn and Tokyo Center for Economic Research; and a research associate of Center on Japanese Economy and Business at Columbia University, and Center for Corporate Performance at Aarhus School of Business. He has held visiting professorships in Japan (Hitotsubashi, Keio, Osaka, Japan Institute of Labour), Korea (KDI School of Public Policy and Management), Australia (New South Wales), Denmark (Aarhus), and the U.S. (Stanford and Levy Institute). He is currently Series Editor of Advances in the Economic Analysis of Participatory and Labor-Managed Firms, and Co-Editor of the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies.
Kato undertook some of the earliest econometric analysis of employee participation and innovative work practices in Japan and Korea. While continuing to work in this area, he has also been studying corporate governance and executive compensation in Japan, Korea, and China. Kato's most recent research involves insider econometric studies of firms in the U.S., China, Japan, Spain, Finland, and Denmark, with particular focus on the nature and effects of high-performance work practices. His work has been supported through grants and fellowships from such organizations as NSF, Russell Sage Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, NBER, SSRC, Japan Foundation, Japan Institute of Labour, Japan Center for Economic Research, and Suntory Foundation.
