Procedure for allocation of teaching tasks to PhD students at MAPP/MS
PhD students work out, in dialogue with their advisor and the head of department, a teaching plan for the whole 3 year period, in the same way as they do a course programme. The first version of this (which will be preliminary) will be done during the first 3 months. The plan is then updated together with the 6-monthly reports.

The teaching plan should, as a guideline, contain the following components:

  • 20% of the total teaching load should be in form of lectures (ideally, the same lectures should be done twice, i.e., the same lectures should be assigned in two consecutive years, in order to allow learning effects)
  • 20% of the total teaching should be supervising of theses
  • 20% of the total teaching should be grading
  • 40% of the total teaching should be seminars and tutorials
  • In the first semester, teaching should be restricted to grading and tutorials
  • Other teaching activities should be concentrated in semesters 2-4
  • The last year (semesters 5-6) should be free of teaching

Deviations from the above can occur due to special circumstances, for example the PhD student’s special competencies.
